As co-founder of Paper Street Teas, these past few years have definitely been fun and interesting. From all of the travelling for taste tests, doing the tradeshow circuits as well as meeting all of the wonderful people in the tea industry.
It has been very great to see how quickly tea is gaining popularity in the states. When Paul and I had started the company, people told us we were nuts, because coffee is the main drink and not many people drink tea. Especially since Lipton and Nestea are out there. They would say, 'why would people pay so much money for tea when they can go to the market and get bagged tea for less!' My quick answer is, that's what they said to Howard Schultz (Chairman of Starbucks and the one behind the current Starbucks stores). Paul and I wanted to get more people to drink gourmet tea, and see that there is a difference between drinking those bagged teas vs loose leaf teas. Our motto has always been, "give up bad tea for good."
In the beginning, it seemed like all of the naysayers were right, especially when we went to the trade shows, there weren't too many people or exhibitors for that matter. But now, it seems to have grown and the number of people that attended this past Tea Expo was just phenomenal. This along with our customers appreciation for great tea and great service really keeps us going.
It has now been almost nearly two years since we originally launched the site, and we have gone through some major changes. Most notably... the name change. Some of you may remember that we used to be called Teanas, which was short for Tea 'n Accoutrements, so we were technically called Tea 'n A's. Teanas for short. Then from our original tea line up of only 20 teas, we have grown quite a bit, and added many new products and even changed our packaging.
Amidst those changes, there was something else brewing. In the coming months there will be some more changes, such as the removal of the tea lab as well as the removal of some teas. We are hoping that these changes will allow us to focus on spreading the joys of teas.
We hope that all of you will do the same. And remember, GIVE UP BAD TEA FOR GOOD!
