Tazo and other tea companies give back

To avoid Nike like exploitations with migrant workers for the tea industry, many companies like Tazo plan on giving money to the production farms to enhance living conditions. They hope to be able to keep the families that develop the raw materials in business, and that what happened with coffee growers doesnt also occur.

We hope to be able to sponsor major crops in the future, but we do work with importers that are certified with the Tea Association to be Fair Trade.

Korean entrepreneur uses green tea in pizza dough

This is a great little article about a Korean entrepreneur who wanted to do something different to make his pizza stand out. So after experimenting he ended up with making his pizza dough with green tea instead of just water.

Of course that was just a small component of his recipe, but for us in the tea industry this is a great coup because many of us have been substituting green tea or black tea for regular water in many of our own recipes albeit usually for dessert items like cookies and biscotti. But I must admit, I am interested in trying out this pizza.

Tom Hanks prefers tea

A cute quip about how Tom Hanks has switched over to tea from coffee and how he likes to drink tea when he is trying to lose weight for a role.

He says he swtiched over to tea because of how much milk he was drinking when he was drinking coffee because of all of the lattes he'd consume in 1 day. He estimates it was about half a gallon per day. Mama mia that's a lot of milk!

watch what you give your kids!

Here's an article from WebMD.com that says that giving your infant herbal tea for colic can be unsafe.

This is because of the contaminants that can be in the tea which can lead to neurological problems. The main ingredient is star anise, which has been heralded as a way to cure colic.

This is really ironic as most herbal supplements and food stuffs are not regulated by the FDA, but they decided to step in on this issue. I wonder how many other peole haveto get hurt before the FDA begins regulating all of those herbal supplements that have flooded the market lately.

give our troops some caffeine

There was some hoopla recently from a woman who boycotted Starbucks for not donating coffee to the troops. Ulitimately she won which is surprising. Anyhow, Organic Coffee and Tea has now decided to take it upon themselves to take donations so that they can send some coffee before Dec. 10 to our troops.

You can read the article here and decide for yourself.

a great article about our friends Honest Tea

Here's a is a great article about Honest Tea and their Tea-EO.

It's interesting to note how they set to create a product that will be customer friendly but also be healthy for them. Sounds familiar to another small company I know.

It's also interesting to note that they do not use staples in their tea bags so that the used tea bags can be used for compost. Yet another thing Paper Street Teas also recommends with your old loose leaf teas.

Anyhow, you should have a read and see what they are up to.

sick soda by Jones

Jones as brought out some new soda for the holidays.

They brought back their Turkey and Gravy soda as well as some others such as Green Bean Casserole, Fruit Cake, Mashed Potatoes and Cranberry.

What's funny is that even the CEO can't stomach the flavors but they brought it back because of the popularity of the Turkey one from last year.

Proceeds go to Toys for Tots.

thanks to Jamie for the heads up on this.

be careful what you drink

According to this article in the LA Times, if you're a tea drinker you should watch out for this particular tea called pau d'arco.

Although it is used in many tonics and stuff, you should be careful as there are some side effects like anemia and uncontrolled bleeding.

So be careful if you are one of the many people who take tea based supplements and stuff which is where this particular tea is found in.

Election is over. Bush reigns again.

Looks like the Bush camp has something to celebrate, now that Kerry has conceded. What a valiant effort on Kerry's part for making this election so close, like none we have seen before since....4 years ago.

So it looks like Bush will reign as president over the masses once again for another 4 years.

Congrats to Bush.

election day!

It being election day, I just wanted to let people in a site that is allowing for free downloading of some politcal movies, like fahrenheit 9/11 for free.

So if you're on the fences about who to vote for check them out and decide for yourself.

And then afterwards, enjoy a piping hot cup of herbal tea to calm those nerves and watch The Daily Show's "Prelude to a Recount!"
